The Lower North Shore Stroke Recovery Club has been meeting for over 25 years.  It is a support group for people who have experienced Stroke and their carers.

This group is held every Tuesday in a church hall on Willoughby Rd, Crows Nest and runs from 10:30am till 11:30am. Morning tea is served and there are regular celebrations of group members birthdays.  The highlight of the year is the Christmas Party, a lunch usually held at a local restaurant.

Partners are welcome to attend the group, however most of the time they choose to go to a local coffee shop for their own gatherings.

This group has a particular focus on Communication and all members who attend this group have some communication impairment (such as Aphasia). There is a speech pathologist who works with members at each meeting and aims to improve communication problems resulting from Stroke.

These sessions are relaxed and social with the following format:

  • discussion of current affairs,
  • a weekly quiz
  • regular word finding games.
  • Presentations by members

The aim is to build confidence and encourage conversation in a supportive and social environment.

The Lower North Shore Stroke Recovery Club would like to acknowledge the Cammeraygal people of the Eora nation, who are the traditional custodians of the land that they meet on. We pay our respect to Elders both past, present and emerging.
